An over-working mind or a conspiracy?
When Pramod Mahajan passed away after a valiant 12 day fight, I thought to myself, another high profile Gen-Next politician bites the dust! As soon as that thought passed, I just held that thought! Did I say "another high profile..."
Come to think of it, I started making a list of high profile politicians who have died under un-natural causes.
Name: Sanjay Gandhi
Death: June, 1980
Cause: A fatal Plane Crash
CV Highlights: Introduced Maruti
Sanjay Gandhi was being groomed to be his mother's successor and would have gone a long way in Indian Politics (given our Dynasty hungry nation)
Name: Rajiv Gandhi
Death: May, 1991
Cause: A human suicide bomb
CV Highlights: Youngest PM at 40
The second successor who came to the helm after his brother Sanjay passed away. He was PM for about 5 years. Although quite a few controversies plagued him, he was considered a charismatic leader and one of the more prominent politicos.
Name: Rajesh Pilot
Death: Year 2000
Cause: A fatal car accident
CV Highlights: Elected to Lok Sabha 13 times.
An Indian Airforce pilot, who took his surname from that profession. He quit the Airforce to join active politics. Held plum cabinet posts and was also slotted to become a biggie in the future Indian politics scene.
PR Kumaramangalam
Death: Aug, 2000
Cause: Prolonged illness but under controversy, as the hospital was accused of wrong diagnosis
CV Highlights: Power sector reformist
Death had snatched away a dynamic personality, an able parliamentarian and an administrator who has made his mark in public life at a young age, again.
Madhavrao Scindia
Death: Year 2001
Cause: Plane Crash
CV Highlights: Computerisation & Modernisation of the Railways. Even defeated Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Gwalior in '84.
A young leader who came from a royal background, took to politics and became a young dynamic leader in the Congress fold.
Pramod Mahajan
Death: May 2006
Cause: Shot by a disgruntled brother
CV Highlights: defense Minister. Known as the "technocrat" of politics
Led Assembly elections in 2004 with a very noticeable "India Shining" campaign, had a major defeat and accepted the blame squarely on his shoulders.
The survivors? Very few are left at the second rung, with Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitely, Jairam Ramesh.
